Vineyards
We have 6.5 hectares of vineyards, divided in 5 different plots and located on the north and south-eastern sides of Montalcino. The 2 hectares of Le Chiuse di Sotto are located on the north and allow us to have a great versatility depending on the weather characteristics of each vintage. Soils are richer in clay, with higher water retention and site is influenced by fresh northern winds. Le Chiuse di Sotto plot has a north-west exposure, ideal for obtaining wines with fine bouquet. Orientation of the rows is north-south, to ensure maximum cluster lighting. The vines are trained with the traditional method of Montalcino, the spurred cordon. Densities are of 4500 vines per hectare, planted exclusively with Sangiovese.
At Podernovone,in the Sant’Antimo area on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino, our 4 vineyards expand to an area of 4.5 hectares, planted with Sangiovese and a small plot of Merlot. In May of 1998 the first 2.2 hectares of vineyards were completed. The remaining 2.3 hectares were planted in October 1998. The soil is rich in sand, slate, galestro, with limestones and a fair amount of clay. Exposure is south-southwest.
All viticulture is organic, with no use of herbicides and synthetic products. Soil management is manual between the rows and under the vines to maintain the natural flora and good aeration of the soil. Organic fertilisation is provided to each vine individually, depending on their needs, in order to ensure a perfectly balanced growth.
